About

The Common Carder Bumble Bee is named for its habit of carding — combing dry grass and moss into a fibrous mat to build nests above ground, a behaviour unique among European bumblebees. Its rusty-ginger thorax makes it one of the most recognisable garden bumblebees across Europe and Central Asia.
