Terms of Use

The deal for
using Pixel Wild.

Last updated · May 22, 2026

The short version

Pixel Wild is a game where you photograph real species, turn them into pixel art, and build a little world you can share. By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Pixel Wild.

Your account

You sign in with Apple, Google, or an email and password. You're responsible for activity on your account, and you must be old enough to consent — Pixel Wild isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly allow them to sign up. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, which removes your profile, captures, sanctuaries, and friend connections from our servers.

Content you create

You keep ownership of what you make in Pixel Wild — your captures, sanctuaries, comments, and profile. By posting content that other players can see (a public sanctuary, a guestbook comment, your display name, a capture shared via a discovery link) you grant Pixel Wild a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for example, to generate the pixel-art version), adapt, and display that content as needed to operate and provide the service. You're responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it — including the right to share any people, voices, or other third-party content visible or audible in your media.

Using your captures as species reference photos

Pixel Wild may select any capture you take and publish it as the “in the wild” reference photo for that species, shown to other players when they identify the same species. You grant Pixel Wild a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, publish, and adapt your captures for this purpose. When we publish a capture as a reference photo we release it under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license — meaning anyone may reuse it with credit — and we credit you by your display name with a link to your profile. Because CC BY 4.0 is irrevocable, reference photos we've already published stay licensed under those terms even if you later delete your account; deleting your account stops us from publishing new ones. This grant is separate from, and broader than, the content license above.

Reporting copyright concerns

If you believe content in Pixel Wild infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with the URL, a description of the work, and proof you hold the rights. We'll review and remove infringing content promptly.

Acceptable use — zero tolerance

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. You agree not to post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or otherwise abusive, and not to harass, impersonate, or abuse other players. Every player can report objectionable content and block abusive users from inside the app. We review reports and act on objectionable content, and we may remove content and suspend or terminate the accounts of users who violate this policy.

Reporting and blocking

Guestbook comments have a Report action, and you can block any player so their content is hidden from you and they can no longer contact you in the app. Reports go to our moderation queue and we aim to act on objectionable-content reports promptly. You can also reach a person directly at [email protected].

Matter and purchases

Matter is the in-app currency. You can earn it by playing or buy Matter packs through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes every payment — we never see your card details. Matter has no monetary value, can't be exchanged for cash, and isn't transferable between accounts; unspent Matter has no value once an account is closed. Purchases are final except where a refund is required by law or granted by Apple under the App Store terms — to request a refund, contact Apple.

Species identification

Pixel Wild identifies species using iNaturalist and Google Gemini. Identification is automated and best-effort — it can be wrong, and nothing in the app should be relied on for safety decisions (for example, whether a plant, animal, or mushroom is safe to touch or eat). Always verify with a qualified expert.

The app is provided “as is”

We work to keep Pixel Wild running well, but it's provided without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pixel Wild and its operator aren't liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits rights you have that can't be waived under applicable law.

Ending access

You can stop using Pixel Wild and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms or use the app in a way that harms other players or the service.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable to the operator of Pixel Wild, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies.

Changes

We'll update this page if the terms change. The “last updated” date at the top is the easiest way to spot when something has moved; continuing to use Pixel Wild after a change means you accept the updated terms.
