About

A tiny cloud-forest frog from Central and South America whose belly skin is so transparent that its bright-green bones and beating heart are visible from below. It spends its life in rain-forest canopy above streams, where males guard eggs plastered to the underside of leaves.

Life cycle

A jelly-coated egg is laid in water and develops over days into an aquatic larva.

A gilled tadpole swims and grazes on algae, slowly absorbing its tail and growing limbs.
