About

Adélie penguins are the most widespread penguins in the Antarctic, along with emperor penguins. They are named after Adèle Dumont d'Urville, who was married to French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville, who first discovered this penguin in 1840.

Life cycle

   A clutch of eggs is incubated in the nest, kept warm by a brooding parent until the chicks pip free.

   A naked or downy hatchling is fed in the nest by its parents.
