About

A large orbweaver of North American gardens and meadows, easily spotted by its bold yellow-and-black abdomen. Females stitch a conspicuous zigzag of bright silk down the centre of their web, called a stabilimentum, whose exact purpose is still debated.

A silk-wrapped egg sac shelters a clutch of eggs until the young are ready to emerge.

A spiderling emerges from the egg sac already in miniature adult form and starts catching prey almost immediately.
