About

A freshwater turtle native to the southeastern United States, easily recognized by the bold yellow stripes on its head and neck. Pond sliders bask in stacks on logs and rocks, sometimes piling several deep to soak up the sun.

   A coin-sized hatchling digs out of the nest and makes its own way to water or shelter.
