About
The lar gibbon travels almost entirely by brachiation, swinging hand-over-hand through the rainforest canopy at speeds up to 55 km/h on arms nearly twice the length of its torso. Bonded pairs defend their territory each dawn with haunting duets — male and female trading alternating phrases that echo over a kilometre of dense forest.
