The American flamingo is a large species of flamingo native to the West Indies, northern South America and the Yucatán Peninsula. It is the only flamingo that naturally inhabits North America.

Life cycle

   A clutch of eggs is incubated in the nest, kept warm by a brooding parent until the chicks pip free.

   A naked or downy hatchling is fed in the nest by its parents.
