This sturdy herbivore roams the vast, open grasslands of the Eurasian steppe. It sleeps while standing up by locking its leg joints to avoid falling over.

Life cycle

   A foal stands and nurses within an hour of birth, long-legged and unsteady at the herd's edge.

   A weaned juvenile grazes with the herd, develops its adult coat, and tests its speed.
