About

An American retriever bred along the Chesapeake Bay in the 1800s, descended from Newfoundland dogs rescued from a shipwreck, to haul waterfowl from icy tidal waters. Its short, wavy coat is naturally oily to shed cold water, and its eyes are a distinctive amber-yellow.
