About

Known in Japan as "aburazemi", this large cicada is unusual among its kin for having entirely brown, opaque wings rather than the clear wings typical of most cicada species. Its buzzing summer chorus, likened to oil sizzling in a pan, is one of the most recognizable sounds of the Japanese summer.
