About

A small, striped chipmunk of western North America's dry forests and sagebrush, the smallest of its genus. It stuffs seeds into cheek pouches that can bulge to nearly the width of its own body before caching them for winter.

Life cycle

   A blind, hairless pup nurses in the nest and is unable to regulate its own warmth.

   A weaned juvenile is fully furred, leaves the nest, and begins foraging on solid food.
