About

A well-camouflaged brown skipper of eastern oak woodlands, named for its mottled, moth-like wings that make it nearly invisible against dead leaves and bark. Its caterpillars feed exclusively on oak leaves and overwinter as fully grown larvae inside a folded-leaf shelter, emerging to pupate only in spring.
