This round frog lives in the dry savannas and grasslands of southern Africa. It inflates its body like a balloon to wedge itself firmly inside narrow underground burrows.

Life cycle

   A jelly-coated egg is laid in water and develops over days into an aquatic larva.

   A gilled tadpole swims and grazes on algae, slowly absorbing its tail and growing limbs.
