About

A medium-small hummingbird resident along the Pacific coast of North America, where males flash a brilliant magenta-pink crown and gorget that reads almost black until sunlight catches it at the right angle. Males perform a dive display ending in a sharp chirp produced not by voice but by air rushing through their flared tail feathers.
