About
The Tricolored Heron is a slender wading bird of coastal marshes, mangroves, and lagoons from the eastern US to South America, recognized by its slate-blue back, rusty-streaked neck, and bright white belly. Unlike sit-and-wait herons, it actively dashes and pivots through the shallows — sometimes spreading its wings to shade the water and cut glare while hunting fish.
